Chapter 14 - Chemical Kinetics - Exercises - Page 615: 14.1

Answer

The rate of combustion reaction depends on the surface area of the droplets. When the injector is clogged large droplets will be released, these will have smaller sufare area exposed to oxygen and hence will have slow combustion rate whereas the other case will have fine droplets with large surface area and hence faster combustion.

Work Step by Step

Uneven combustion can cause the engine to run roughly and decrease fuel economy.
