Chapter 7 - From DNA to Protein: How Cells Read the Genome - Questions: Question 7-7 C

Answer

Incorrect.

Work Step by Step

Prior to the formation of the translation initiation complex, the small ribosomal subunit slides along the mRNA strand in a 5' to 3' direction until the start codon (AUG) is detected. Then the large ribosomal subunit will bind to the small ribosomal subunit, creating the translation initiation complex. When the ribosome hits a stop codon, the ribosome will break up into the small and large ribosomal subunits.
