Chapter 6 - Bones and Skeletal Tissues - Review Questions - Page 197: 15

Answer

First off, bone tissue is composed of a mix of collagen and other protein and mineral salts made of calcium and phosphate. This combination of "ingredients" makes bone very hard and has a resistance to being compressed. Bone also serves as a reservoir for minerals and has blood vessels, unlike cartilage which has no blood vessels and relies on the outside tissue for support therefore since cartilage is avascular it is much slower at regeneration.

Work Step by Step

Bone and cartilage are both considered connective tissue in the human body but, yet have different physical characteristics.
