Answer

The basement membrane of an epithelial tissue is located between the epithelial cells and the underlying connective tissues. it is composed of collagen and reticulin, glycoproteins, and several other protein-carbohydrate complexes (laminin). It usually has two layers --the basal lamina and a lower reticular layer.

Work Step by Step

The basement membrane anchors the epithelium to underlying connective tissue; it controls the exchange of materials -- nutrients, wastes, and gases-- between epithelium and connective; it also controls epithelial growth by supplying it with growth factors.
