Unlike blood capillary endothelial cells, the endothelial cells of lymphatic capillaries are not joined by tight junctions; they do not have a continuous basal lamina, and the large gaps between them permit the not only the entry of fluid, but also of bacteria, lymphocytes, other cells, and particles.
