The gaps between the endothelial cells of the lymphatic capillaries are much wider than those between the endothelial cells of the blood system capillaries.
Work Step by Step
Unlike blood capillary endothelial cells, the endothelial cells of lymphatic capillaries are not joined by tight junctions; they do not have a continuous basal lamina, and the large gaps between them permit the not only the entry of fluid, but also of bacteria, lymphocytes, other cells, and particles.
