Chapter 17 - Section 17.2 - Figure 17.4 - Anatomy of the Pituitary Gland - Page 635: 1

Answer

The neurohypophysis or the posterior pituitary.

Work Step by Step

Nerve fibers from cell bodies in the hypothalamus pass down the infundibulum as a bundle ( the hypothalamo-hypophyseal tract),and end in the posterior lobe of the pituitary. Hormones secreted in the hypothalamus move into the neurohypophysis by axoplasmic flow and are stored there for later release. The posterior pituitary stores, but does not secrete ADH and oxytocin.
