Chapter 1 - Section 1.7 - The Language of Medicine - Before You Go On - Page 21: 21

Answer

Modern anatomical terminology is heavily based on Greek and Latin naturally, because anatomical science as we know it today has its roots in the times of these ancient civilisations. It was then when lots of names and terms were initially given. In 19th century scientist had come to an agreement to maintain Latin and Greek as a international madical language, in order to avoid confusion of unrecognizable terminology in different parts of the world.
