Chapter 10 - Geometry - 10.3 Polygons, Perimeter, and Tessellations - Exercise Set 10.3 - Page 638: 51

Answer

A polygon is a two-dimensional figure with any number of sides. It is of two types - regular and irregular polygons.

Work Step by Step

A polygon is a two-dimensional figure, which is of two types that is a regular polygon and an irregular polygon. A regular polygon is a figure in which all the sides are of the same length. In an irregular polygon, all sides are of different length. The names of the polygons are classified as per the number of sides it contains. A polygon with 3 sides is called a triangle. A polygon with 4 sides is called a rectangle or quadrilateral. A polygon with 5 sides is called pentagon. A polygon with 6 sides is termed as a hexagon and so on. The interior angles of a regular polygon can be determined by the formula \[\left( n-2 \right)\times 180{}^\circ \], where n is the number of sides of a regular polygon. In a regular polygon, all angles are of same degree measure.
