According to the tables, (see screenshot below) $f(x)$ increases without bound $(f(x)\rightarrow+\infty)$ when $x\rightarrow 1$ from either the left or the right side. Neither of the one sided limits exist but both are $+\infty$, so we write $\displaystyle \lim_{x\rightarrow 1}f(x)=\infty$. (as opposed to "does not exist", which we write when one is $+\infty$ and the other is $-\infty$.)
