Chapter 6 - Section 6.4 - Dividing Polynomials: Long Division and Synthetic Division - Exercise Set - Page 372: 95

Answer

The remainder theorem is generally less tedious.

Work Step by Step

In my experience, the remainder theorem is more difficult than direct substitution in most cases. However, with large polynomials, direct substitution can become tedious and is fairly involved algebraically. Thus, for larger polynomials, the remainder theorem is best since it can be less tedious in these situations.
