Chapter 3 - Test - Page 270: 4

Answer

See below.

Work Step by Step

The domain of the function is all the real numbers apart from the ones for which it is undefined which is when the denominator is $0$, which is when $x^2+5x-36=0\\(x+9)(x-4)=0$ So the domain is all real numbers apart from $x=4$ and $x=-9$. $h(-1)=\frac{-1-4}{(-1)^2+5(-1)-36}=\frac{-5}{1-5-36}=\frac{-5}{-40}=0.125$
