Stranger than Fiction is a film released in 2006, directed by Marc Forster. A fantasy and comedy film, it stars Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, and Emma Thompson. Zach Helm developed an initial script in 2001, which eventually got picked up by producer Lindsay Doran. The music for the film was written by Britt Daniel (of the band Spoon) and Brian Reitzell. Releasing in the United States in 2006, the film grossed $13.4 million in 2264 theaters. Worldwide it grossed $40.7 million. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film's rating is around 72%, the average rating being around 6.8/10.

Stranger than Fiction was met with general critical acclaim and Will Ferrell was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance as Harold Crick. While some criticized it as sentimental and light, Roger Ebert wrote of the film, "such an uncommonly intelligent film does not often get made."
