Sisters in Law Imagery

Family ranch

The circumstance that prevented Sandra's father, Harry, from college is described using imagery. The author writes, "He thought he would go to Stanford after serving in World War I. But just as he set out for college, his father, H. C. day, died. Leaving his perched and dusty family ranch in southeast Arizona in terrible financial straits. Harry had to leave California to see if he could rescue the cattle-raising operation.

Ruth Bader

The sense of sight is depicted to readers when the author describes Ruth's appearance during her first assignment. The author writes, "Ruth (Kiki) Bader was, to all appearances, a conventional college coed. She appeared in her sorority (AEPhi) house picture dressed in a buttoned scarf. A pretty, popular sorority girl in the outfit du jour, Ruth already understood well what it took to get along.”

The Public

The public's interest in following up on restrictive abortion law in the presence of three women is conveyed using sight imagery. The author writes, "The public got a glimpse into life on 4/4 court when the umpteenth restrictive abortion law came before the Supreme Court, in a case argued in March 2016. For the first time since the Court started considering restrictive abortion laws right after establishing abortion rights in 1973, there were three women on the Supreme Court.”
