    Was Kunta being principled or foolish to reject his friendship with the person he was shackled to because the man was not a person of faith?

    This question can be addressed so many different ways that it is impossible to give it any one "answer." Some might argue that Kunta is being principled and true to his faith in Allah. Others might agree, but for strategic reasons--staying true to his faith is one of the few ways that Kunta can remember who he is in the midst of this chaotic event. Still others might disagree, saying that either the circumstances are so dire that rejecting a friendship is risky and unwise, or that friendship is a valuable asset at any point in life...
