Objective:
Students will practice their visual analysis skills on artworks related with the text.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9–10.7 ; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.9–10.4 ; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.9–10.6
Structure:
In this activity, students will be asked to examine in detail Thomas Cole's four painting series The Voyage of Life, and then individually write a short (2–3 paragraph) ekphrastic analysis of each of the artworks. The analyses should not interpret the artwork, but should instead merely describe what is happening in the artwork.
