Phillis Wheatley: Poems Lesson Plan

Bringing in Technology

Throughout the study of the poems of Phillis Wheatley, students with disabilities should have the option of using dictation software for writing assignments, and text-to-speech software for reading assignments, or any other ADA-mandated technological accommodations.

Many activities, including "Life of Wheatley," the "Missionaries and Slavery" activities, and "Mourning and Prayer," require internet research.

All activities related to writing include publishing on a document-sharing platform such as GoogleDocs or a class blog.

"What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July" on Day 1 can use a video to facilitate engagement with the text.
