The Paradox of Ajihad
At first, when Murtagh arrives in Varden, Ajihad puts him in prison after discovering that he is the son of Morzan. Ironically, Ajihad regrets his decision after realizing that Murtagh is a great warrior. When Murtagh is sent to fight alongside the Varden leaders against the Urgals, he proves his strength and exceptional sword-fighting skills. In the end, Ajihad and Murtagh become great friends, which nobody expected to happen.
The Irony of Morzan
Under normal circumstances, a father should be responsible and care for his children regardless of gender. Ironically, Morzan demands Murtagh’s mother to give him away at birth. Murtagh’s mother is allowed to see him once in a while after a very long time. The irony manifests when Morzan refuses to recognize Murtagh as his son. Nevertheless, Murtagh ends up becoming a powerful leader in the Empire Kingdom.
The irony of power
When a leader takes power, he becomes obsessed with authority and thinks he can suppress his subjects forever. For instance, when Murtagh becomes the ruler of the Empire Kingdom, he rules with an iron fist and assures everyone that he is a life leader who will rule throughout his life. Ironically, the ordinary people are fed up with Murtagh and topple him from power. Once a powerful figure, Murtagh runs to an unknown destination to seek refuge.
