Murder in the Cathedral contains references to violent events during a period in history when the vast majority of people were disenfranchised by their leaders and lived (and died) at the whims of the political and religious leaders governing their regions. While students may find it somewhat elusive to connect with and fully understand the events and culture of nearly 1000 years ago described in this play, the historical information should not overshadow the timeless philosophical and literary connections students can make between this work and others they have read.
