Mrs. Warren's Profession

Mrs. Warren's Profession Yvette

Yvette is the name of a short story published by French author Guy de Maupassant in 1884. Jane Achurch suggested this story to Shaw as the inspiration for a play, which would become Mrs. Warren's Profession. In the story, the narrator speaks to someone he knows about a woman, The Comtesse Samoris, whose straight-laced daughter, Yvette, committed suicide after learning of her mother's promiscuous lifestyle.
