The Tension Described Between Social Norms and Mrs. Dalloway Based on the Effects of Anarchism and Feminism College

The aim of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway is to make the reader realize what the most important things in life are by bringing up issues like politics, war, what life exactly is, philosophizing about love and the place where women should be within society; questions that are relevant even in the 21st century. This novel is based on changes, yet it also explores unchangeable things. Clarissa has not been able to give up hope and she still searches for positive effects within every tiny thing, she still cogitates, even though she is not exactly the same anymore. Therefore, the main reason why I am going to examine these features through Clarissa’s, later on through Mrs. Dalloway’s eyes is the fact that she sees society differently than others, in spite of the fact that she has assimilated into it.

The timeline of the novel advances chronologically in a straight line, although past events intervene into present ones. This is the first answer to how readers are capable of seeing and understanding the development of the main character, the ultimate change between the more private Clarissa and the more public Mrs. Dalloway. Seeing society differently in Clarissa’s case means that somewhere inside of her soul, she is still questioning...
