Morning Star Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Morning star

Morning star is a nickname that Darrow receives from Sefi, Ragnar’s sister and queen of the Obsidians. He is a morning star because he shed light on the truth behind the false gods. Darrow is also a morning star because he fights against the tyranny, moves the people to change and gives those enslaved and suffering hope.

The war

War is at the core of the novel and it is a necessary means for a change. The Golds who have been at the top of the pyramid and exploited their positions won’t surrender without the war and Darrow has to accept that there will be painful losses, deaths of innocent and murders to bring forth a change, to give people freedom.

The fire of humanity

As Darrow’s liege gathers for a war against the tyrants of humanity, he calls them the fire of the people, the fire of humanity. They are not their colors, but people who fight for a better tomorrow, fight to break the chains.

Ares

Ares is not a person, but a symbol, a difficult position to be filled and which Sevro fills after his father’s demise. Ares is a symbol of hope to those oppressed and enslave, but with the position comes a huge weight of cruel decisions and sacrifices made.
