    Before Intersectionality Jigsaw

    Group Work

    Objective:

    Students will be able to situate Crenshaw’s arguments within the field of Black feminism.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.8

    Structure:

    In “Mapping the Margins,” Crenshaw says that while she coined the term intersectionality, the concept of considering race and gender together precedes her work. In this activity, students will participate in a jigsaw in order to gain exposure to different Black feminists texts that connect race and gender.
