In Cold Blood tells the story of a devastating quadruple murder that took place in Holcomb, Kansas, in 1959, exploring the consequences of the crime for both the community and the perpetrators. Truman Capote researched the book for several years, traveling to Kansas and interviewing everyone who was in any way involved with the investigation of the shocking murder of the Clutter family. His friend Harper Lee (the author of To Kill a Mockingbird) accompanied him on these journeys. Over the years Capote developed a strong emotional tie to Perry Smith, one of the killers, and was present at his execution.
