Malala started taking the rickshaw to school rather than walking because her mother was afraid for her safety. Malala is pretty brave. She just carries on and does not listen to the nonsense and threats.
The Taliban were pretty harsh. The Pakistani army were no angels either. At least the Pakistani let girls go to school and were not a brutal theocracy. I think the Pakistani army was preferable.
Malala didn't understand 9/11. She was far too young to put it all together, however, she does comment that it brought far reaching consequences..... it brought war into her valley.
