Irony of Larry
Larry is lauded by all in Frenchtown as a war hero. However, he is perhaps the most evil character in the text as he rapes Nicole and doesn't seem to feel any remorse or regret.
Irony of heroism
Although Francis saved his entire platoon by stepping on a live grenade, he refuses to see his actions as heroic. He feels so guilty about the past that he cannot think anything positive about himself, despite the fact he is the most heroic character in the text.
Irony of predictions
Joey LaBlanc is dismissed as a loud-mouth character by Francis. However, he makes a very accurate prediction about the Wreck Centre, and how it is going to lead to trouble.
