Girl Interrupted

Girl Interrupted Analysis

“Girl, Interrupted” is a film that can spur varying audience responses. Maybe after this movie you will not discover something new, but you will just see someone’s story. Is it bad, or is this just unfiltered, unmediated reality? Movies about psychiatric hospitals can always reveal the inner world of the heroes much deeper. Drama is present everywhere, but there are certain aspects of the protagonist. There is Susanna Kaysen (Winona Ryder), suffering from panic attacks and inner struggle. The key element of this film is that the clinic is only for women, where Susanna Kaysen is among the sick patients.

Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder, Brittany Murphy, Jared Leto are famous gifted actors. Therefore, the film is worth looking for the sake of such amazing cast. Moreover, Angelina’s heroine is very insane. When Lisa Rowe (Angelina Jolie) appears, everyone seems to be looking for a place to hide from her. Therefore, viewers can experience the same. It seems she is not a dangerous person, but a little excitement arises. In this film, there is a lot of philosophy – to live or not to live. It bears on suicide issue.

There is a positive moment in the film, when the patients of the clinic become real friends. They worry about each other, trying to get out of their depression. They even become a loving family. The viewer should rethink this film and think about his/her life. This movie is ideal, because there is no need to peer out at its meaning. Everything brings to light. It is enough just to reach out the hand to the moral values that are revealed. What are the moral values? The main heroine opens a new world, unknown to her before – a world without lies, open and sincere, problematic, but alive, sharp, but honest and truthful. She sees people as they are, meets with her problems, with which she begins to struggle with the help of self-examination. Susanna learns the whole truth of life, the beauty of friendship and the pain of death. The true thought of the film – changing something in our life, we think that we have done so much, so much needed and useful things. However, in fact, we have only changed the scenery and our life has remained as stupid, faceless and empty.

The film is simply an amazing manual for self-tuition for those people, who very often experience ambivalent feelings, the inconsistency of which cannot give rest to their owners. The answer the film gives is this – do not try to get rid of your emotions, but express them, despite all their absurdity and incompatibility with each other. It is better to seem too emotional than “abnormal”!

After watching the film, one may have many questions – “Is it about me? Is it about all of us?” Everyone has problems with his/her head, but not everyone can take himself/herself in hand without help and not everyone wants to do it. The main heroine is in limbo, standing on the border between the world of madness and the world of “normal”. However, making a choice is not so easy...
