Dreamland Burning Summary

Rowan Chase is a seventeen-year-old girl who unravels a mystery surrounding a skeleton discovered by the construction crew in the family home. The skeleton has been underneath the floor of their house for almost a century. Rowan together with her best friend called James Galvez also discover a riffle and a wallet. Her white father ventures into the oil business while her black mother is a prominent lawyer. Almost a century ago, seventeen-year-old William Tillman faced almost the similar challenges Rowan is facing now. William was born to a white father and an Indian mother.

William is interested in a white girl called Adeline Dobbs. One day, a black man called Clarence Banks comes and seats next to Adeline. The argument ensues between William and Clarence. The fight leads to a fight and William hurts his wrist. When the white police officers are called they take law into their own hands by beating Clarence to death. William is not amused at the way blacks are treated. White people are mistreating black people. Nearly a century later, racism is still existing.

Rowan is working at a medical clinic and one day she gets an accident. A black man called Arvin comes to rescue her but a white man pushes him against one of the vehicles. Arvin is knocked down to death and the man who shoved him is set free. Later, Rowan learns that the skeleton which was found in their house was the remains of a violent man who participated in killing blacks during the 1920s.
