Dreaming in Cuban Irony

Dreaming in Cuban Irony

The irony of Celia

Celia is a satirical character who does not find happiness in her life. Celia lives in her past, and she is not ready to accept that she lost her love. Instead, Celia regrets her life choices, affecting her relationship with her children, who distanced themselves from her.

The irony of Jorge

A husband is expected to respect his wife, provide for her and offer protection. Unfortunately, Jorge does exactly the opposite because he mistreats Celia after marrying her. Due to mistreatment, Celia falls into depression and mental breakdown.

Lourdes relationship with her mother

Lourdes is another paradoxical character who develops a cold relationship instead of loving her mother and distances herself. When an opportunity comes, she leaves for America with her husband, and she does not care much about her mother.

The satire of Pilar Puente

Pilar’s character and motivation to live to contradict that of her mother, Lourdes. Unlike her mother, Pilar builds a strong relationship with her grandmother, Celia. Therefore, as demonstrated by Pilar, children can develop a completely different character from those of their parents.
