Analysis of Film Form and Meaning in District 9 (Blomkamp, 2009) College

Film form plays a great deal of significance when making relations in a system in efforts to evaluate elements in the whole film. With Film Form comes the meaning behind the elements that seem to be well juxtaposed to fit a system of sequences and conventions. In Film Form, meaning is divided primarily into four distinct sections that fit into the puzzle of what the purpose of the movie implies according to the spectator. They are Referential, Explicit, Implicit and Sympathetic meaning and each one holds a different dimension to the pieces of the movie puzzle since perceptions can vary from one person to the next. Using the movie District 9 (Blomkamp, 2009) as reference, I shall attempt applying the four sets of meaning to reveal the depths of the movie by unraveling its constructed form of meaning, in the text that follows.

First on the list is Referential/Tangible meaning. Plainly, it can be said that it deals with a skeletal, plot summary of the movie focusing on things and places that hold significance to the manner in which the movie is addressed. In District 9 (Blomkamp, 2009), significant themes dealt with are those of change, from indifference, to acceptance, home, violence, ownership and at other times, even empathy.
