Coming (Philip Larkin poem) Poem Text

Coming (Excerpt)

On longer evenings,
Light, chill and yellow,
Bathes the serene
Foreheads of houses.
A thrush sings,
Laurel-surrounded
In the deep bare garden,
Its fresh-peeled voice
Astonishing the brickwork.

- Philip Larkin
