Christmas is a Sad Season for the Poor Irony

The irony of Christmas day

Christmas is a day of celebration, and all people are supposed to have fun. Ironically, Charlie is having a sad day, and for him, Christmas is the worst day for the poor. People wish Charlie a happy Christmas, but he reminds them he is not happy. Charlie sees people going to church and others coming with gifts for him, but he still sees nothing good about Christmas.

Charlie’s gifts

When Charlie is given Christmas gifts, he is asked whether he has children. Ironically, Charlie tells people that he has children, but in reality, he has none. Mrs. Fuller's family and many others give Charlie Christmas gifts to take to his children. At the end of Christmas day, Charlie goes home with many gifts, but he feels guilty about them. When he gets to his house, he does not want to open those presents meant for his children, who are not there in reality. Therefore, Charlie decides to give those gifts to the woman who has three children and asks her to divide them among her children.

The landlady

The landlady is a poor woman with three skinny children because she cannot provide enough food for them. The landlady never thought one day she would have enough and donate to the less fortunate. The landlady received gifts for her children from different departments on Christmas day. When Charlie realizes that he has been given many gifts for his fake children, he decides to drop the gifts at the landlady and orders her to give them to the children. However, the children already have enough. The landlady remembers that street children have got nothing, and she is happy to share some of the gifts with them. Ironically, for the first time in her life, the landlady has a surplus of food and other gifts that she shares with the less fortunate.
