Children of Time Character List

Dr. Avrana Kern

Avrana Kern is the story’s protagonist leading a new scientific life. Avrana is an ambitious woman working extraordinarily hard behind the scenes on a terraforming project that will enable human beings to control other planets in the future. While Kern is in Brin 2, a ship where she heads a crew, she gives a speech about the possibility of succeeding in her project. Secretly, Kern wants to release monkeys into the other planets as an experiment to see if they can survive. Kern's primary intent is to send the barrel of monkeys with a nano-virus to see if they can evolve and develop intelligence like human beings.

Kern has lived for over a thousand years, has seen many generations, and is a compassionate god for spider characters. Due to her experience and age, Kern's thoughts are similar to artificial intelligence. Kern's experiment on the green planet becomes a success when spiders develop the ability to converse with humans.

Sterling

The author depicts Sterling as a courageous man that Kern uses to ride the barrel of monkeys in a sentry pod to the experimental planet. The sentry pod is supposed to go around the green planet and observe what happens. When Sterling starts a conversation with the engine room, Sterling learns that the only planet that can support life is earth. The occupants of the engine room despise Kern's plan of experimenting with the possibility of life on other planets.

Eliza

Eliza is the artificial intelligence (AI) in the sentry pod. Eliza puts Kern to sleep and wakes her up after 14 years. Eliza tells Kern they are alive because they developed immunity against the killer virus. However, Kern is trapped in the sentry pod and still wonders when Eliza will release her to check on her experiments.

Holsten Mason

Mason is a classist working with Isa bin. When the unknown signal is intercepted, an engineer called Isa wakes mason up and takes him to Commander Guyen to interpret the confusing messages on the ship's screen. Mason interprets the signal and tells the commander that it is coming from the old empire, warning the crew that the planet they are headed to is inhabitable.

Isa Lain

Isa is an engineer of the ship Mason, and the rest of the crew are traveling towards the unknown planet to explore the possibility of life in it. When the ship receives an unknown signal, he wakes Mason to help translate the messages.

Vrie Guyen

Guen is the ship's commander, and when the unknown message is translated to him, he advises the crew they to sleep until they arrive at the unknown planet. However, Guyen is scared because he learns they are heading to a planet that cannot support life. Therefore, when he asks the crew to sleep, he does not know if they will ever wake up again.
