Students will write and act out an imagined dialogue between two characters in the novel.
Common Core Standards:
While following Doc on his trip to La Jolla, Steinbeck establishes that the man is willing to pick up hitchhikers, so long as they don't talk too much. In the text, he picks up a man who accompanies him to Ventura, at which point they have a disagreement and Doc kicks him out of the car. Divide students into pairs or groups of 3-4.
