The Gita is one part of the Mahabharata, an ancient Sanskrit epic of India. The Mahabharata tells the tale of the Kurukshetra War. It is thought to be written around 400 BCE. Also consider other Hindu texts such as the Vedas, the Upanishads, and the Puranas.
