My Mirror

We know that colleges ask a lot of hard questions on their applications. This one is not so hard and we promise, there is no hidden agenda-just have fun! If you could star in any movie, what movie would you pick and why?

“We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I’m no different.”

The movie Memento closes with Lenny saying this. Given the chance, I would star in Memento. Lenny’s mirrors were his memory devices, but my mirrors are more tangible. When I don’t know who I am, I rely on photos and the letters I have collected to remind me who I am or who I have been.

I have a box that I keep at the top of my closet full of notes, letters, and birthday cards. I pour them out on my bedroom floor quite often, usually when I want a reminder of my friends. The kindness contained in these letters, though, is etched into my memory. One letter says, “You are an inspiration to us all. The world needs more of you.” Another one reads, “You pour out sunshine and I’m so excited to see it reflect off of your little middle-schoolers one day.” I hope that the things I say can serve as mirrors that people can use to figure out who they are or help them see the beauty in themselves, especially for the middle schoolers I want to teach one day.
