The Purple Crayon

Describe two or three of your current intellectual interests and why they are exciting to you. Why will Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences be the right environment in which to pursue your interests?


When he fell off a cliff, Harold drew a hot air balloon to catch himself. When he fell in love with an apple tree, he created a dragon to guard its jewels[WU1] . When he created too many pies for himself, he drew hungry animals to prevent waste. After becoming entrenched in the world of current affairs and politics through my endeavors in and out of school, I dreamed of having the power to change the world with such ease. However, without the magical purple crayon, I am left with my own wits and passion as I continue my journey of understanding the way our world works and the challenges we face. I know that I will never be able to fix every problem with the wave of a crayon, but at Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences, I will one day acquire the knowledge and reasoning I need to hone my skills as a solver of social problems.
