Annie on My Mind Summary

Annie on My Mind Summary

Liza and Annie first come across each other at the Metropolitan Museum of art and get close despite coming from two entirely different worlds. Liza studies in Foster Academy and wishes to become an architect. Meanwhile, Annie studies in a public school and lives with her working class parents in Manhattan.

Despite coming from such different backgrounds, they do have a strong connection, one that soon grows into love. Liza struggles to stay open minded as she ends up defending a defiant student in her school, an incident that ends up in a three-day suspension for her and further brings the two close due to a shared struggle. This closeness then leads to their first kiss and Annie’s revelation that she might be gay. However, Liza hasn’t really thought of this so far.

Liza volunteers to take care of the home of two of her teachers when they go for a vacation. Annie comes over. But the administrator finds them together and Liza’s family has to be ultimately told about the relationship. While the headmistress tries to organize a meeting to expel Liza, this punitive effort is unsuccessful.

In a turn of events, the two teachers turn out to be lesbians and are kicked out of the school. However, the teachers support the girls’ relationship. Liza however ultimately leaves Annie.
