Individual Writing

Objective:

In this activity, students will practice essay-writing skills, gathering evidence and creating an argument about a particular theme or topic in the novel.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.1

Structure:

Students should choose from the following list of potential essay topics and themes:

Racism, death, education, protest, writing, active citizenship

Students are allowed to propose an alternative topic subject to approval by the instructor (to ensure there is sufficient text in the novel to support a full essay).
