A Vigilante

A Vigilante Analysis

The director's debut movie follows a woman who was an abuse victim and who decided to help other abuse victims while also searching for her abuser husband who killed her son.

The movie starts with showing the main character Sadie helping an abuse victim by beating and threatening her husband to never approach the victim again. Sadie is battling her own demons, with flashbacks to her time at a woman's shelter and dealing with the memories of abuse she suffered and of her lost son. In the middle portion of the movie we hear the story of what exactly happened to Sadie and how her husband escaped, leaving her unable to move on mentally and financially.

The movie takes a complete turn when Sadie gets kidnapped by her husband, who followed her to her hiding place. It is clear that he wants to continue with where he left her, once again trying to regain control over her with emotional and physical abuse. She manages to escape and finally accomplish her long sought-after revenge, leaving his dead naked body in the middle of the forest to be found by the police and for her to finally get the assurance money.

The movie ends with a completely different atmosphere, Sadie has a smile on her face and the sky is blue indicating that she's finally free. It is a movie that portrays themes of domestic violence and silencing of abuse victims, while also being a classic revenge story.
