A Memory of Light Irony

A Memory of Light Irony

The absurdity of Egwene al’Vere

Egwene is a significant character in the series, and her prowess is something that intrigues readers from the begging to the end. Interestingly, it is common knowledge that most heroic characters such as Egwene make it to the end alive. Absurdly, Egwene does not make it out alive after the apocalyptic battle. Consequently, the massacring of Egwene by the author contradicts the expectations of readers who are looking forward to seeing her victorious.

The irony of power and heroism

Rand is an all-time hero and authoritative, as depicted by the author. Rand is portrayed as fearless and undefeatable under whatever circumstance. Ironically, the Slayer is a real threat to Rand's life, something beyond readers' expectations. For instance, when Rand comes to Shayol Ghul, he is forced to hide in the cave to escape the wrath of the Slayer who wants to kill him. Rand is saved from Slayer by Perrin.

The shadow of the Black Tower

Despite symbolizing power and authority, the guardians of the Black Tower can easily be tossed and challenged by Androl and Pavara when they join hands to save Logon from the Black Tower’s captivity. The irony is significant because it demonstrates the power of determination and courage.
