A Court of Mist and Fury Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Feyre’s tattoo

Feyre's tattoo symbolizes her inextricable nature with Rhysand. When Feyre and Rhysand make a bargain in the mountain to save Tamlin, the contract leaves a blue-black permanent tattoo on her left hand. The tattoo has an eye on the palm, which signifies that Rhysand and Feyre can read each other's minds. The rest of the tattoo represents intimacy, implying that Feyre and Rhysand can stand naked before each other. Therefore, the contract requires that Feyre spend seven days a month with Rhysand at the Spring Court.

The book

The book mentioned in the novel is a powerful artwork that symbolizes power. King Hybern must regain both halves of the book to conquer mortal and fearie realms. However, before King Hybern seizes the two halves, Feyre and her team snatch one of the books, which deny him the authority to control the two kingdoms.

Red

The color red in Feyre's paintings symbolizes her passion. Feyre's artwork is predominantly showing her infatuation in following her dreams. When Feyre lives with Tamlin in the Night Court, she discovers he suppresses her passion because of his controlling attitude. However, Feyre controls her life whenever she lives with Rhysand in the Spring Court.
