A Clash of Kings Background

A Clash of Kings Background

A clash of Kings is the second novel from the series A song of Ice and Fire by J.R.R. Martin. The novel was published in 1998 and won the Locus award in the same year. The novel focuses on the civil war in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and a part of the story takes place North, where a group from the Night’s Watch investigate the disappearance of the wildlings.

The novel is told from nine different points of view: Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Bran Stark, Davos Seaworth, Catelyn Tully, Tyrion Lannister and Theon Greyjoy.

Just like its predecessor, the novel presents intricate plots, complex characters and unexpected events. In this novel, Westeros is presented in the midst of a civil war, where the common people suffer and are forced to flee from their homes while the rich stay inside their castles or die on the battlefield. The human being is presented in its most raw state, where one would do anything to ensure its survival.

Just like the book Game of Thrones, events taking place in A clash of Kings appear in the TV show from HBO which quickly became a world-wide phenomenon.
