Frenchie feels resentment because he thinks his father didn't search for him... or for Mitch.

His father's response;

“I did, son.” His voice was low, but calm. “Every day.” He rubbed a memory of an injury on the side of his ribs. “No matter what. I didn’t set up this camp to be my community, Francis. I brought these people together so that we could find our community. But, eventually, that’s what we became in the
absence of the other. But it doesn’t mean we stop searching.”
