Eric
Eric himself is a metaphor for human nature. He is someone who is conflicted by what is asked of him to do despite it being cruel and what is right. He makes mistakes throughout, such as lying and stealing. But ultimately he redeems himself by doing the right thing and returning the stilts.
Lord Droon
Lord Droon is a metaphor for all those in the world who seek to serve themselves only and do not consider others. He only wants the King to do his bidding and thinks he can achieve this by stealing the stilts. Of course, he is thwarted by the actions of Eric thus stressing the importance of accepting others for who they are.
Nizzards
The Nizzards are large black birds, resembling ravens, that eat away at the Dike Trees. Their very existence threatens the state of the Kingdom. The Patrollers try to keep them at bay, thus suggesting that their presence is pure evil and must be kept at bay.
The King
The concept of the King in this story is a metaphor for the beauty of not being labelled. Though he is the King, he does not behave traditionally as one all the time. This is expressing the idea that all people ah e creative outlets and cannot be put into categories.
