Did Xuma adjust to life in the city?

No, I don't think Xuma ever adjusted to or enjoyed any part of his life in the city. He simply stagnated and accepted that he couyld not change his circumstances. Xuma thought of the country as home... a place where he is free to be himself, and a place where he is free from sadness and desperation.
