Jack attempts to belittle Ralph in front of the other boys to subvert Ralph's power. Jack tells the others that there is definitely a beast on the mountain but says that Ralph is a coward who should be removed from his leadership role. Jack tries to link Ralph with Piggy and convince the boys that only he (Jack) is strong enough to protect them from the beast.
