Day 4

Jane Eyre Lesson Plan

Discussion of Thought Questions

  1. 1

Even if Mr. Rochester did not have a wife, would he make a good husband for Jane?

Some students may feel that Mr. Rochester loves Jane, and that she loves him, too, and that love is the basis of a solid marriage. Others may feel that Mr. Rochester's lack of straightforwardness about his marriage, as well as the machinations he undertakes to win Jane over, indicate an inner deceptiveness that does not mesh with Jane's inherently honest nature. Some may believe that the two complement each other well, but others may think that Rochester has proven himself dishonorable.

  2. 2

How do Jane's previous experiences help her survive once she leaves Mr. Rochester's house?
