Horror, Comedic, Suspenseful

Protagonist and Antagonist

Protagonist is Ash. Antagonist is the evil force that possesses anyone.

Major Conflict

Ash has played Knowby's recorded reading of the book of the dead which causes a demon to be unleashed which possesses anyone in its path.

Climax

Annie recites an incantation to get rid of the demon, but the vortex sucks Ash in as well. Annie dies from a stab wound from Ash's cut off hand, and Ash finds himself in 1300 A.D. where he kills the deadite and breaks down crying.

Foreshadowing

The opening scene foreshadows the danger to come with the reading of the book of the dead.

Understatement

It is understated that Ash's hand will come back to do any more killing.

Innovations in Filming or Lighting or Camera Techniques

N/A

Allusions

The film is an allusion to hubris, as the book of the dead was seen as a great archaeological find when in reality it only brought death.

Paradox

Annie is able to rid the demon through the vortex with the incantation. Paradoxically, it sucks Ash into it as well.

Parallelism

Henrietta coming back to life parallels Linda having come back to life as well earlier in the film.
