Father and Child is Harwood's most heavily-anthologized poem, but her works are best understood within the collections that she published throughout her lifetime, such as the award-winning Bone Scan from 1988. Harwood's first collection of letters Blessed City: Letters to Thomas Riddell 1943 offers valuable insight into her process and approach as an artist. Other important Australian poets include Bruce Dawe, Aboriginal writer Oodgeroo Noonuccal, and Les Murray, all of whom shared Harwood's concern for nature.
