Assassin's Apprentice Characters

Assassin's Apprentice Character List

Fitz

Fitz is the central character in the novel, and he is also the narrator. Fitz is an illegitimate child of Prince Chivalry. When young, Fitz lives with his grandfather. The grandfather reaches a point where he gets tired of taking care of the bastard son of the Prince, and he decides to take him to the castle and drop him off at the guards to take him to his father.

While in the King's castle, Fitz is treated coldly by the family members because they do not consider him as one of the legitimate children in the family. Fitz gets confused with the cold and harsh treatment he gets from the people he calls family. Prince Chivalry leaves the castle and goes away, and the people blame Fitz for the Prince's departure. At some point, the King discovers that Fiz is an intelligent boy and commands that he should be under his watchful eye. Fitz trains as a swordsman and equestrian, and he becomes the assassin apprentice, ensuring that the royal family is safe from any threat.

Prince Chivalry

Prince Chivalry is the son of King Shrewd and Queen Desire. He is the biological father of Fitz, and he sires him out of wedlock. When Fitz is brought to the palace by his grandfather, the boy is taken care of by Burrich, Chivalry's stableman. The presence of Fitz in the castle sparks a nasty debate against Chivalry, and he decides to resign from being the next heir of his father's kingdom. People in the town blame Fitz for making their next ruler resign from ruling the future.

The Grandfather

The grandfather has taken care of Fitz since he was a young child, and now he has at least grown to be with his father. The grandfather is tired of taking a parental responsibility that Prince Chivalry should take up. The grandfather says he is tired and decides to take Fitz to the King's palace and drop him off at the guards telling them to surrender the boy to his biological father.

King Shrewd

King Shrewd is the husband of Queen Desire and the biological father to Prince Chivalry, Regal, and princes Verity. When the King learns that his wife and children are planning to sell Fitz, he refuses the idea and instead commands that Fitz should be under his watchful eye. The King is a wise man, and when he discovers that Fitz is an intelligent boy, he allows him to train as a swordsman and horseman. Later he becomes the assassin apprentice working under Chade to ensure the royal family is safe.

Queen Desire

Queen Desire is the wife of King Shrewd and the biological mother to Prince Chivalry, Regal, and Princes Verity. With Regal and Princes Verity, Queen Desire comes up with a plan to sell Fitz. Queen Desire treats Fitz coldly and badly, making him feel he is not wanted in the family. When she tries to sell him, the King refuses.

Burrich

Burrich is Prince Chivalry's stableman, and he is the one who takes up the responsibility of taking care of Fitz when he is dropped at the gate by his grandfather. He is kind and compassionate because he treats the boy well and reminds him that he belongs to the family no matter what happens.

Regal

Regal is the younger brother of Prince Chivalry. Riga hates Fitz passionately, reminding him that he is an illegitimate child who does not belong to the royal family. With his mother and sister, he comes up with a plan to sell Fitz, but it backfires.

Princess Verity

Princess Verity is the daughter of King Shrewd and Queen Desire. She is also the sister to Prince Chivalry and Regal. She is part of the family members that treat Fitz coldly. However, she depends on Fitz when they go to political meetings to ensure their security.

Chade

Chade is the man in charge of the royal family's security. Chade heavily relies on the intelligence of Fitz, who gathers information and analyzes threats before he exterminates whoever poses a threat to the royal family.
